The River Dodder In FloodOriginally uploaded by infomatiqueThe River Dodder (An Dothra in Irish) rises on the northern slopes of Kippure in the Wicklow Mountains. From there it flows for some 20 km through Tallaght and the Dublin suburbs of Rathfarnham, Templeogue, Milltown, Clonskeagh, Donnybrook, and Ballsbridge before entering the Liffey at Ringsend.The River Poddle is linked with the River Dodder as it flows through Tallaght - this link used to help with Dublin City’s water supply.To catch sea trout on this river it is best fished in September at night when the river is in spate.There is a weir just above the bridge at Ballsbridge and the river becomes tidal roughly where the bridge at Lansdowne Road crosses it.The Dodder and the River Tolka are Dublin’s second largest rivers, after the River Liffey.

Smithfield Area - DublinOriginally uploaded by infomatiqueSmithfield Market was laid out in the mid 17th century as a marketplace. Until recently the square was lined with inner city ‘farm yards’ housing livestock. In 1964 Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor spent time here, as Burton worked on the film set in Smithfield for the film adaptation of John le Carre’s novel The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. Recently, Smithfield has been rejuvenated under the HARP (Historic Area Rejuvenation Plan). The restoration involved lifting more than 400,000 one hundred and twenty-year-old cobblestones, cleaning them by hand and re-laying them. Contemporary architecture and twelve 26 metre gas lighting masts, each with a 2 metre flame, now flank the square. The smell of horses can still be experienced at Smithfield at the Horse Market (every first Sunday the month). The sight and sounds on these Sundays give an impression of what Smithfield once was.

Just posted! Our new lens review of Canon's top-end fast telezoom, the EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM. This is Part Two in our planned tetralogy of reviews featuring 70-200mm F2.8 lenses tested on both APS-C and 35mm full frame cameras (coming soon! 'The Tamron Menace' and 'Revenge of the Sigma'). In our last review we found the Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 VR performing superbly on DX but struggling on the 35mm full-frame FX format, so how does Canon's equivalent stand up to our exacting tests?

Olympus E-420 Gallery posted

We've just posted a gallery of samples from the new Olympus E-420 digital SLR, including a selection taken with the new Zuiko 25mm F2.8 'pancake' lens. The E-420 updates the 'world's smallest SLR' (the E-410), whilst the new lens offers an equally compact alternative to the more common 14-42mm zoom kit lens.

Adobe seeks International recognition for DNG

Adobe is submitting its DNG 'universal RAW' format to the International Standard's Organization (ISO), in a move aimed at increasing acceptance and usage. The format is being proposed as part of ISO's TIFF/EP (electronic photography), standard. We spoke to Adobe about the move.

Tamron 28-300mm VC for Nikon

As well as adding motors to its existing lenses, Tamron has also started building motors into its new Nikon-compatible lenses. The 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 VC lens offers a 10.7x zoom range with the company's proprietary optical stabilization system. DX-format users get fields of view equivalent to 43-465mm (in FX terms).

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 gains motor for Nikons

Tamron has continued its process of adding in-lens motors to its Nikon-mount lenses, with its 28-75mm f/2.8 being the latest recipient. This makes the lens fully compatible with the Nikon D40, D40x and D60, offering their owners fields of view equivalent to a 42-112.5mm lens (in FX/35mm terms). The magnificently named 'SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO' can focus as close as 33cm throughout its zoom range.

Samsung Armani camera phone review

Not only is the Giorgio Armani mobile phone a stylish device, it is also delivered in style. The black box has a silky feel, like the cover of the users guide. A leather pouch that folds out comes with the cell phone to protect it. When you shut the cover, it shuts down the cell phone. You can also choose to use the included pouch made from soft material. Naturally a battery charger, USB cable, earphone and software CDs are included in the box. An original addition is the soft cleansing cloth, marked with the Armani logo, which serves to wipe the Samsung Armani clean.

Canon EOS 450D Review

The latest Canon DSLR is called Canon EOS 450D, and will be put on the market beside the EOS 400D. The SLR cameras look like twins. Canon have kept all the good things of the EOS 400D, whilst adding new ones to it. Naturally the Canon EOS 450D works seamlessly with the EF-S lenses. These were developed especially for the APS-C format of the image sensor, resulting in a cheaper and more compact lens. Together with the compact body, the Canon 450D is the ideal set to use on holiday where usually lots of photographs are taken.

The Canon IXUS 90 IS digital camera has a stylish and a compact trendy body offering ten Megapixels of resolution. With the help of a 3x optical zoom, unfortunately no 28mm wide angle, Canon's optical Image Stabilizer (IS) with lens-shifting feature, PureColor LCD II and integrated enhanced intelligent software the Canon Digital IXUS 90 is a camera with powerful features packed in a neat and compact size designer housing. Other features such as for instance quality and user's ease are just as important in contributing to the success of a camera.

Canon EOS 1Ds at Kenya Safari Event

When you are offered the opportunity to work with the latest digital equipment on a location you will probably never visit again; you do not have to think twice! I am talking about an invitation from Canon Europe on a press trip to Kenya with a number of colleagues from the Netherlands and many other countries. No less than 80 journalists from Europe, among them four colleagues from the Netherlands, were flown to Nairobi, Kenya, at the invitation of Canon. In Nairobi small groups were formed to fly to the Borana ranch in the Laikipia area, north of Nairobi and situated by the Mount Kenya. The Canon EOS Safari trip coincided with 20 years of EOS; a unique memorable moment in the digital world!
